DJA's design for a Specialist SEND school on a Green Belt site in Dorset. With substantial alterations and additions to the existing buildings, we have transformed these un-remarkable rural structures into a single storey, purpose-built learning facility, drawing inspiration from barn structures and the rural surroundings.
The school site also features a sports hall / multi-use games area, in addition to a listed barn that will be renovated and converted into a hall with mezzanine above, breathing life into this important rural building.
Materials have been carefully chosen to complement the rural setting, with oak, timber effect cladding, copper and steel being used to bring a natural palette to the exterior. Internally, large windows and raw timber, combined with vaulted ceilings, create bright, airy and modern spaces, conducive to a calming, relaxed learning environment.
Planning has recently been approved for this project.
